Julia went back to school, but it was interrupted by a miscarriage of a child Sean and Julia were trying to have. Christian learned he is the father of a baby with a woman named Gina, who he met at Sexaholics Anonymous. When the baby was born, we learn that the baby is African-American, and therefore not his. Julia questions Matt's paternity.

Leonel grows up in the United States, believing that Roberto is his biological father, and although he is unsure of his origins, and doesn't speak Spanish, he constantly has nightmares involving the border with Mexico, and a woman he cannot remember. On the day of a very important fight, he gets arrested and deported to Matamoros as an undocumented visitor, never given the chance to prove that he's actually an American citizen.
