A pair of identical twins, for example, argue whether one of the sisters should fulfil the other’s longing for a child, while an unhappy mother yearns to rekindle her relationship.
　　Luciana sends the twins to Beirut, the mother to Alaska. Kerekes accompanies them on their journeys of salvation, even if Alaska turns into an air conditioner and a few buckets of ice cubes for reasons of practicality. He always brings out the comic potential of a story while pointing out complicated conflicts with astonishing poignancy: possessive mother figures and absent fathers, loneliness in a relationship and the fear of change. “Wishing on a Star” is a charming consultation that boldly confronts the big questions in life.

　　七十年代轰动中国的纪录片，亿万国人记忆中的奋斗精神！在河南省的最北端，一个被称为林县的名不见经传的小地方因为一条水渠而闻名全国。这条悬崖峭壁上开凿的总长1500公里的大渠，被人们称为人造天河，它叫红旗渠。有一部与这条水渠同名的电影详细记录了当时修建的过程并于1971年在全国播出。红旗渠从1960年开始动工，一修十年，而电影《红旗渠》也跟拍了十年。拍摄这部纪录片的电影人制作了他们电影生涯中耗时最长、投入最多的一部纪录电影。十年间到底有多少人参加了《红旗渠》的摄制已经说不清楚，但在十年中他们共留下了一万多尺胶片。当年，周恩来总理曾自豪地对国际人言说，新中国有两个奇迹：一个是南京长江大桥、一个是林县红旗渠。

　　六个月的时间，他驱车4万公里，走遍加拿大，寻找100名受访者，询问他们同一组关于人生的问题。受访人的年龄从一岁到一百岁，一个年龄一人，一百名受访者出生于1912年到2011年的每一年里，整整横跨一个世纪。

　　Recorded by Chinese-born Canadian documentarian Wang Yinan during a ten-month odyssey across his adoptive nation, Being Towards Death i s a singularly Canadian rhapsody that weaves together the stark voices of an otherwise unconnected - and certainly unsung - set of Canadians, whose ages range from one to 100. Confronted with a standard battery of frank questions about life, and shot statically against the backdrop in their homes or workplaces, this film's mundane stars open up to a stranger about their everyday struggles with work, love, loss and in so doing offer fascinating insights into what it means to live.

　　For over 50 years, Hayao Miyazaki has been enchanting the world with his films. Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro), Mononoke-hime (Princess Mononoke), Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (Spirited Away), or his latest film Kimitachi wa dō ikiru ka (The Boy and the Heron), to name only a few of eleven feature films, ten short films, several manga, and also through Studio Ghibli, a museum and a theme park. They form a luminous body of work and characters that have become cult classics. Miyazaki’s films, often autobiographical, also reflect the state of the world and the turmoil of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, made of wars and ecological disasters. He was born in Japan in 1941, during World War II. As a child, he immersed himself in drawing manga until he had a revelation upon discovering Hakuja den (The White Snake Enchantress), the first Japanese colour animated film by Taiji Yabushita. From then on, he decided to devote his life to animation, this magical art capable of overcoming the darkness that had always deeply inhabited him... Thanks to exceptional access granted by Studio Ghibli to numerous film excerpts and rare Japanese television archives, we discover the life of Miyazaki as well as a profoundly ecological body of work that questions our relationship with the natural world and living beings. Thinkers like anthropologist Philippe Descola or philosopher Timothy Morton, as well as close associates, his son and film director Gorō Miyazaki, and Toshio Suzuki, his longtime producer and friend, bring us closer to this tireless, obsessive, and mysterious artist.
